In early November, we joined forces with a group of REALTORS® in Orlando for NAR NXT – NAR’s event for REALTORS® community members. We had the opportunity to meet agents, brokers, and MLS leaders while conducting sessions at our booth and recognizing industry leaders who are making a positive impact. Additionally, we participated in a fireside chat with Anthony Djon from Anthony Djon Luxury Real Estate, discussing the importance of establishing a strong brand and its influence on attracting and converting potential clients. Stay tuned for insights from our conversation!
Establish an Identity That Stands Out
In today’s competitive market, your personal reputation is more important than ever. Both clients and colleagues want to get to know the real you. But how do you begin building your personal brand?
Anthony recommends starting with media and focusing on content that aligns with the reputation you want to establish in the real estate industry. Whether you aim to be recognized as a luxury agent or specialize in a particular price range, your content should reflect that expertise.
Create Opportunities to Foster Clients
Whether you’re new to the field or have years of experience, building your network is crucial in real estate. Investing in leads is a proven strategy for growing your connections and opportunities. Anthony emphasizes this by saying, “If you’re not investing in leads, you might as well be going back in time.” However, it’s not just about buying leads; it’s about engaging with them and nurturing those relationships.
Anthony and his team have perfected the lead nurturing process. “At our company, a key operational milestone each week is making 400 calls,” he explains. “Our database is extensive due to our high lead acquisition volume. Not everyone will be reachable right away, so it’s essential to allocate one to two hours per week for proactive prospecting to generate fresh business opportunities.”
While this approach requires time and effort, it delivers results. Clients’ situations change rapidly, and maintaining a steady flow of potential buyers and sellers is essential. By nurturing your leads, you avoid having to start from scratch each time.
“How long does it take to build a strong working relationship with a new client? It could be 60 days, or even 90 to 120 days in some cases. With certain clients, it might take up to a year,” Anthony shares. “That’s why I always stress to my team the importance of consistent prospecting.”
Anthony advises agents to stay committed, persistent in follow-ups, and sharp in their approach.
Obtain Feedback on Listings and Landing Pages
When trying to secure a client—especially a seller—your past performance matters. Since 97% of consumers browse through reviews before making a decision, testimonials play a key role in establishing credibility and trust.
“You need a strong online profile to stand out,” Anthony says. “Ensure your Realtor.com profile is well-maintained, and make sure your Google reviews are visible and abundant to showcase your credibility.”
When preparing for a listing presentation, it’s crucial to highlight client testimonials and inquire about the other agents the seller is considering. This allows you to present a clear comparison.
“We review their production over the past year and leverage our brand profile to secure the listing,” Anthony explains. “We showcase our successful closings, sales data, and customer reviews to demonstrate why we are the right choice. The presentation concludes by assuring the seller they can expect real results.”
Connect With Other Industry Professionals
Anthony strongly believes in supporting others within the community rather than solely focusing on competition. Building relationships in the industry is invaluable. He suggests setting aside competitive instincts and following top agents in your region on social media. Engaging with their content helps establish meaningful connections.
Anthony recalls a personal success story: “When I first entered the industry, I was relatively unknown. So, I decided to connect with leading agents on social media platforms like Facebook. I consistently engaged with their posts, liking and commenting, even though most agents rarely interacted with others. Over time, I noticed they started reciprocating by engaging with my content as well.”
“Now, when it comes time to negotiate deals,” he adds with a smile, “it’s a much smoother process because they already know me.”
Take a Leap of Faith and Show Courage
When starting your journey as a real estate agent, focus on building a brand that reflects who you are and what you aim to achieve. Anthony shares a key exercise he uses with his agents:
“I ask them, ‘Who are you? What services do you plan to offer? What image do you want to project?’ Answering these questions helps shape their personal brand.”
After this introspection, the next step is identifying the type of content that best represents your brand and starting to create it. Anthony advises against waiting for the perfect moment or having a client base before you begin.
“The key is to learn and take action immediately,” he says. “Don’t delay. Start now.”
Ultimately, leveraging your brand to generate leads is the goal. “Invest in yourself,” Anthony emphasizes. “How? By purchasing leads, attending conventions, and learning from speakers. If you focus on strengthening your social media presence and consistently acquiring clients, you will achieve tremendous success in 2023 and beyond.”
